Principles of Heat Transfer in Porous Media

Principles of Heat Transfer in Porous Media By Massoud Kaviany
    1995 | 726 Pages | ISBN: 0387945504 | PDF | 5 MB

This book provides descriptions of single- and two-phase flows and of heat transfer in porous media. The author presents the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, conduction, convection (including dispersion), and radiation, starting from first principles and then applying volume-averaging techniques. For phenomena for which a complete theoretical treatment is not available semi-empirical treatments are given. Special attention is given to hydrodynamics, dispersion, and phase changes at and near the surfaces bounding the porous medium. The aim is to provide practicing engineers and researchers with the tools needed to deal with heat transfer in the porous media encountered in geological, environmental, petrochemical, and other industrial processes. Tabular and graphic presentations of the results help to connect the fundamental governing and constitutive equations to such practical applications as groundwater flow, packed-bed chemical reactors, wicked heat pipes, and petroleum recovery. This second edition has been corrected and revised throughout, and contains a new chapter on computations for two-phase flow.
