This volume consists of papers that were presented at the conference on Complex Analysis held at the University of Kentucky during May 18—22, 1976. This conference was held in honor of Professor S.M. Shah on the occasion of his retirement. He has contributed important work in various branches of the broad area of complex analysis including papers on entire and meromorphic functions, univalent functions and analytic number theory. It is therefore appropriate that the topics considered in this volume are varied although there is a certain unity in that the problems considered have a geometric motivation or interpretation.
The conference received generous support from the National Science Foundation under Grant Number MCS 76-06305-A01 and from the University of Kentucky Graduate School. We wish to express our appreciation tor this support.
We thank all participants for their cooperation and for making the conference a success. We also thank our colleagues Professors Frank Keogh and John L. Lewis who did much of the work necessary for organizing the conference. Finally, we wish to thank Linda Newton and Karen Shepherd who attended to many details of the conference and Pat Nichols who did an excellent job of typing the manuscript.
