A UNIQUELY MODERN APPROACH TO UNDERSTANDING ADULT PSYCHOPATHOLOGY, INTEGRATING HISTORICAL CONTEXT, TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH, AND MORE

This book goes beyond DSM-5 classifications to provide state-of-the-art, evidence-based coverage of adult psychopathologies in their entirety, from assessment through treatment and beyond.

Chapters follow a consistent format, providing comprehensive coverage including overviews which place disorders in the historical context within which diagnoses currently are made. Each expert-authored chapter covers description, epidemiology, prevalence, assessment, treatment, and consequences. Also considered are neurobiological, genetic, behavioral, social, cognitive, and emotional factors. Throughout the book, DSM-5 classifications are matched with clinical case examples illustrating how a psychopathology and its assessment influence treatment.

    Inside you will find:

State-of-the-art coverage of adult psychopathology as categorical/dimensional, translational, evidence-based, and ever-evolving
The DSM system's limitations and strengths revealed, while providing deeper insight into the historical context within which diagnoses are made
Updates to align with the latest thinking on alcohol and substance use disorders, sleep-wake disorders, and personality disorders
Contributions from specialists in each disorder who provide exceptional insights into all aspects of theory and clinical care
Advancing research continues to push our understanding of psychopathology beyond traditional lines, revealing further layers of complexity and both new challenges and treatment opportunities. Psychopathology, Third Edition goes beyond DSM-5 to help students and practitioners view the whole disorder—and the whole patient
