Stop waiting for change to come. Be the change that you need in your life.

In everyday life, black women have a horrendous amount of stress to deal with.

We work harder but earn less. We have more responsibilities in the home and in the community but enjoy fewer benefits. We are more likely to suffer from health problems but less likely to be treated.

But that’s ok! We are “strong black women” and we can handle this — says a society that is fueled by stereotypes and misconceptions.

The truth is, this idea that black women can handle anything and everything thrown at them, no matter how unjust or burdensome, is meant to keep us down and prevent us from getting the help we need.

Yes, there are many amazing, confident, and proud black women who are inspirations.

But for the rest of us, this chronic stress caused by racial trauma and a mountain of other things is having detrimental consequences.

Consequences like burnout, low self-esteem, anxiety, and more.

As much as we fight for change in the world, real change can only come from within us.

That change starts with you taking charge and putting your needs first. This isn’t selfish, it’s the ultimate stance against a system that constantly ignores us.
