About the Authors

Peter Jones is a Professor Emeritus and formerly Head of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology. He has been an active supporter of school mathematics over many years and helped pioneer the introduction of graphics calculators into Victorian schools. Peter is a highly experienced writer of mathematical content. His area of expertise is applied statistics.

Kay Lipson has a PhD in Statistics Education, and Diploma of Education. Her experience includes over 30 years teaching mathematics and statistics at both secondary and tertiary level, as well as extensive periods as a VCE examiner. Kay is an experienced author of textbooks for the Years 11 and 12 Mathematics courses, specialising in the areas of Probability and Statistics.

Michael Evans has a PhD in Mathematics from Monash University and a Diploma of Education from La Trobe University. He currently holds the honorary position of Senior Consultant at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute at the University of Melbourne. He was Head of Mathematics at Scotch College, Melbourne, and has also taught in public schools and in recent years has returned to classroom teaching. He has been very involved with curriculum development at both state and national levels. In 1999, Michael was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws by Monash University for his contribution to mathematics education.

Rose Humberstone is an experienced teacher of VCE Mathematics, with degrees from the University of Melbourne in Science and Commerce, a Ph.D. in Economics and a Masters in Education. She is currently a Head of House at Scotch College. Rose has held various curriculum leadership positions in her career as well as working as a VCAA examination assessor.

Peter Karakoussis has degrees in Science and Education from Monash University. He is an experienced teacher of senior VCE Mathematics, an assessor for the VCAA examinations and a workshop presenter for students and teachers at Australian Catholic University. Peter has served as a board member for the Mathematical Association of Victoria and is currently a teacher of mathematics at Scotch College.

Kyle Staggard has taught and been involved with online teaching and course development for many years. He has worked in curriculum and teacher professional development, as well as examination marking.
