Author and chef Hari Nayak grew up in the rural southern Indian village of Udupi where preparation of the daily meals was serious business. Often starting before dawn and continuing through much of the day, three generations of cooks in his household were busy preparing the rich curries, spicy condiments, and fragrant breads and rice dishes that are the hallmark of traditional Indian cooking. Hari started his culinary career by making masala omelets for his entire family when he was just 8 years old. Even at that tender age, he knew that preparing delicious food would become his life's work. After emigrating to the US, Hari graduated at the top of his class as an honor student in the Culinary Institute of America in 1998. He's spent over 15 years as a chef preparing delicious, modern Indian food, and has become a food consultant and restauranteur as well.
