Judy Bailey was a pioneering force in Australian jazz, a brilliant composer and pianist, and a passionate educator whose influence shaped generations of musicians. This album, from pianist Lauren Tsamouras and trumpeter Tom Avgenicos, is a loving tribute to one of Australia's most important performers and composers.

The recording had its genesis in a performance at Sydney’s Inner West Jazz Festival in 2024. At that time, Judy hadn’t been able to actively perform or teach for some years. Lauren and Tom, both former students of Judy’s, leapt at the chance to spend more time with her music, and ABC Jazz was thrilled to be able to commission this studio recording, to bring the music to audiences around Australia and around the world.

"Given Judy’s brilliance as both a pianist and composer," says Tom, "we felt the most meaningful way to engage with her music was through electro-acoustic re-imaginings and reinterpretations. Her compositions are so distinctive and powerful that we knew her voice would shine through, no matter how we approached them."
