Known as Clare Fischer & Salsa Picante Present “2 + 2” in the States, this special album earned keyboardist/composer/arranger Clare Fischer his first Emmy. It combines the American’s lauded Latin group Salsa Picante with another of Fischer’s musical loves, vocal jazz. Before he migrated into Latin and bossa, Fischer arranged and played piano for one of the most popular vocal jazz groups of the late 1950’s the Hi-Lo’s. A major influence on the next generation of musicians, Fischer’s place in the jazz Pantheon is secure – several of his compositions have become jazz and Latin standards; Herbie Hancock commented “I wouldn’t be me without Clare Fischer”. The group includes conga star Poncho Sánchez, Weather Report percussionist Alex Acuña, Fischer’s son, Brent (Prince, Michael Jackson, Usher, Al Jarreau), and Grammy award-winning singer Darlene Koldenhoven.

One of the most innovative jazz/pop vocal groups of all time, the pioneering Hi-Lo's influenced countless pop, R&B, and doo wop groups from the '50s right up to the present. This 1980 recording includes pop hits of the era (Just The Way You Are, After the Love Is Gone) and standards arranged to highlight the precise harmonies of the four members. The album was one of a pair the ensemble recorded after a 14 year hiatus; the response from the public encouraged the quartet to work together more regularly throughout the rest of the 1980s.

Organist Clare Fischer pulls out all the stops on this album as he takes on the Yamaha EX-42 electric organ, joined by two of the West Coast’s best known sidemen, bassist Andy Simpkins and drummer Larry Bunker. The material here runs the gamut from Gershwin to Monk to Latin-tinged numbers, with Fischer’s dense chords fleshing out these tunes. Fischer's influence can be felt on a wide range of modern music: with 11 Grammy nominations, he arranged for the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Al Jarreau, Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson and enjoyed a many-year collaboration with Prince, writing some 40 orchestral arrangements. This album was originally released as "T'DA-A-A!" in 1972.
