Tigers, pigeons and festivals. There's something about him that we just can't get over. Maybe it's these incredibly funny, evil songs from our beloved Vienna. Maybe it's a small corner of his view of the world that we share. Although of course we grew up in a completely different place. Maybe he says what we wouldn't have dared to think.

Maybe it's just the relief that his sharp, merciless and uninhibited look into the human abyss gives us. That we are not alone with the devil on one shoulder and pain on the other.

And our ridiculousness gets a loving kiss on the cheek.

Georg Kreisler is much more than Viennese humor and morbid charm. A record like this can't do all that. But it can be a gift.

Full of admiration, full of humility before his virtuosity, before his life, his actions and his art, before his endurance and endurance, we stand there and thank him because his work translates to us like a language computer what our vocabulary is not sufficient for.

And would have liked to give him a gift too.

A birthday present. For the 101st, or for the 2nd, or for the 3rd.
