The Chinese viola Wenting Kang has been described as "an excellent violist" who "has a dark and bright sound" by the New York Times after her performance at the Marlboro Music Festival at Carnegie Hall. His performance has also been described by the Boston Musical Intelligencer as "elegant, precise and full of expressive intensity", which has "a pure, muscular tone …", becoming "passionate without ever losing control".

As a soloist, Kang has performed with the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra and the Tokyo TOHO Gakuen Orchestra, as well as with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. He has performed solos in prestigious concert halls, such as the Jordan Hall in Boston or the Kioi and Ishibashi Memorial halls in Tokyo. He has received the First Prize in the II edition of the Tokyo International Viola Competition in 2012. He has also won the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante competitions at the New England Conservatory, the V August Dombrovska International Competition, the Concerto Competition of the Beijing Central Music Center. , and the first prize at the China Viola Festival and National Viola Contest, where it also won additional awards for concert and contemporary piece.
Additionally, she has won the third prize at the 2010 Johannes Brahms International Competition and the Robertson Prize at the 2011 Viola Primrose International Competition.

As an active chamber musician, she has been invited to several international music festivals, such as Marlboro Music, Steans Institute in Ravinia, Yellow Barn Music and Monadnock in the USA, Viola Space in Tokyo and Chamber Music Connects the World in Kronberg.
