    In 1961, the Ventures included Bob Bogle (lead guitar), Nokie Edwards (bass guitar), Don Wilson (rhythm guitar), and Howie Johnson (drums). Their fourth album, "The Colorful Ventures," was released in October of 1961. It was their first album with a theme, with every song having a color in the title. Although it didn't generate a hit single, it's a solid album from start to finish. Highlights include their versions of "Blue Moon," "Blue Skies," "Greenfields," and the rocking "Red Top." Original instrumentals include "Yellow Jacket" (written by Bob Bogle, Nokie Edwards, and Don Wilson), and "Orange Fire" (written by Nokie Edwards). The closing song, "Silver City," features brass, and could have been used as the theme song for a Western. What makes this album even more impressive is the fact that it was their fourth album released in less than 12 months, after "Walk, Don't Run" (1960), "The Ventures" (1961), and "Another Smash!!!" (1961).
