Cluster is Silvan Joray’s first album as a leader. It was recorded at Bauerstudios in Ludwigsburg (Germany) on 12th and 13th April 2019 by Philipp Heck, under the artistic direction of Silvan’s long-time mentor Wolfgang Muthspiel. It is mixed by Daniel Dettwiler at Idee und Klang Studio. Silvan is one of those young musicians that you know from the beginning: he will be doing good things simply because he’s talented, a hard worker and a good composer. The world needs to hear him…

After playing some of this music live with his trio for more than two years now, he decided to document this first period of work and record his debut album. Originally coming from playing straightahead jazz, he developed his compositions and playing towards a more modern and open approach over the past years. The order of tunes on the album is very carefully chosen to keep the listeners attention throughout. Every composition is opening up a quite specific world but at the same time allowing the musicians to deal very freely with the given material. There is a golden thread going all the way through that makes «Cluster» a piece of art as a whole instead of just a collection of tunes.

Silvan is very fortunate to have the Swiss radio and television SRF2 Kultur as a Co-Producer for the album, as well as further financial support by Migros Kulturprozent and the cultural departments of the cantons Solothurn and Basel.
