»Up« wurde 1998 veröffentlicht und ist das elfte Studioalbum von R. E.M. Das Album, das die Singles »Daysleeper«, »Lotus«, »Suspicion« und »At My Most Beautiful« enthält, ist von elektronischer Musik inspiriert und nutzt eine breite Palette von Instrumenten, um eine verträumte Poplandschaft zu schaffen, die nachdenklich und stimmungsvoll ist.

Diese erweiterte Deluxe-Edition zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum bietet außerdem ein komplettes, bisher unveröffentlichtes Live-Set vom Auftritt der Band in der 90er Jahre Hit-TV-Serie Party of Five. Es war das erste Album der Band ohne Schlagzeuger Bill Berry. Das Album war von elektronischer Musik beeinflusst, und Stipe erklärte, dass mehrere Songs das »religiös-spirituelle versus wissenschaftlich-technisch-moderne Zeitalter« thematisieren. Es erreichte Platz 3 der Billboard 200 und Platz 1 der deutschen Charts.
