Créée en 2023, la cantate ‘Tombeau pour Aliénor’ de Thierry Escaich résulte d’une commande de l’Ensemble Amarillis. Basée sur un poème d'Olivier Py, elle met en scène la voix d'Aliénor (1122-1204), deux fois reine de son vivant – reine de France par son mariage avec Louis VII, puis d'Angleterre par son second mariage avec Henri II Plantagenêt. Associés à des pièces de Purcell, les sept poèmes lyriques et les trois interludes instrumentaux aux combinaisons sonores variées créent une fresque sensible, évoquant la vie et les états d'âme de la souveraine, ses pensées et ses désirs.

Premiered in  2023, Thierry Escaich’s cantata ‘Tombeau pour Aliénor’ was commissioned by Ensemble Amarillis. Based on a poem by Olivier Py, it features the voice of Eleanor (1122-1204), twice queen in her lifetime – queen of France through her marriage to Louis VII, then of England through her second marriage to Henry II Plantagenet. Combined with pieces by Purcell, the seven lyric poems and three instrumental interludes with their varied sound combinations create a sensitive fresco, evoking the life and moods of the sovereign, her thoughts and desires.
