    For centuries, ancient China has been fascinated by the Western world, with its exotic music, artful painting and writing, harmonious Gardens. The so-called Chinoiserie, a Western art movement that took the Chinese style as its model, was also very popular among the composers. Walter Niemann composed his Impressionist Suite "Alt-China", Cyril Scott" Lotus Land "and Abram Chasins wrote the entertaining" three piano pieces "with the impressive final piece"Rush Hour in Hong Kong".

    Piano pieces on Chinese folk songs or opera themes were the only possibility for Chinese composers to continue to compose for the Western piano during the Cultural Revolution. Many works were created during this time, which still inspire us today through their artful combination of Western compositional techniques with beautiful Chinese melodies with catchy qualities.
