On his new album "In A Time Lapse" Ludovico Einaudi reflects on the insight into the finiteness of life and its effect on our feelings and experiences. In doing so, he creates the moving soundtrack to a kind of life film in time lapse, a phenomenon known, for example, from descriptions of people with a near-death experience. "The moment in which we become aware that our lifetime is finite has an elementary significance. Because this is where the attempt to transcend the limits of thought and live every moment as intensely as you did as a child begins," Einaudi explains about the philosophical background of his album.

As epic and emotional as "Divenire" and as experimental and adventurous as "Nightbook", Ludovico Einaudi once again creates novel sound textures and sophisticated arrangements on "In A Time Lapse", merging different musical worlds into one. In the course of this fascinating musical phenomenology of our experience of time, the Italian composer and pianist's typical reminiscences of the Baroque and themes from Italian folklore, palatable late-Romantic string passages and a diverse palette of percussive and electronic timbres are heard.

With the participation of Einaudi's regular ensemble, the string orchestra I Virtuosi Italiani, the album's 14 new compositions were recorded in a remote monastery near Verona. Violinist Daniel Hope is featured as a prominent guest soloist in four pieces: In "Life" and "Experience" together with I Virtuosi Italiani, in "Underwood", a touching duet with Einaudi, and in "Orbit", where the solo violin seems to ascend towards heaven - towards infinity.
