Probably no other band has interwoven prog rock and folk as masterfully as the Brits of Jethro Tull have managed to do. It became the unique selling point of the group around Ian Anderson how they innovatively merged both influences into a new and exciting whole.
A prime example of this is "The Broadsword And The Beast," the 14th studio album by the band from Luton, England, released in 1982. It continues to captivate fans to this day with its distinctive blend of rock, folk and progressive influences, masterful storytelling and Ian Anderson's unmistakable flute melodies. The album has also received critical acclaim.
A very special touch is given to the work by the increased use of electronic elements and synthesizer sounds by the newly added keyboardist Peter-John Vettese.
To mark the 40th anniversary, Jethro Tull have now announced a "40th Anniversary Edition" of the work. The anniversary edition includes new mixes by Steven Wilson, demo recordings, raw mixes, live recordings and sessions from 1981. The complete experience of "The Broadsword And The Beast" is offered by the "Monster Edition" on five CDs and three audio DVDs.
