In this new interpretation of Antonio Vivaldi's famous Stabat Mater, hedonism gives way to a dolorism to which the Red-haired Priest had not often accustomed us. Accompanied by the Capella Cracoviensis conducted with infinite care by Jan Tomasz Adamus, the Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński gives a new dimension to this music thanks to a very skilful ornamentation enriching Vivaldi's long, rather simple vocal lines. This highly expressive interpretation sends Vivaldi into a throbbing mannerism by giving this score, rediscovered only in 1939, a deeply melancholic dimension.

The Stabat Mater is the oldest vocal work by Vivaldi that has come down to us. It probably dates from 1711, at a time when the composer, supporting his violinist father, was working in Brescia before his well-known activity at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, that hospice and music conservatory for orphans and abandoned girls where Vivaldi would hold, for forty years, various positions as choir director, principal composer and violin teacher.
