    Greentea Peng. It was by combining her favourite herb (green tea) and her favourite word (peng), a typical piece of slang from her native South London, that Aria Wells, a relative newcomer on the teeming British soul scene, came up with her alias. After two EPs in 2018 and 2019 on which the 26-year-old fumbled a bit (by her own admission), this debut album really sees Greentea Peng find her feet. Man Made is a sort of "ultra-sonic trip. An exploration of self and sound. A product of shifting paradigms both inner and outer." Produced by the trusty Earbuds and recorded in a friend's coverted studio in the Surrey countryside after endless mushroom and marijuana fueled experimental sessions, the album seamlessly blends soul, dub, R&B and psychedelic. But Aria prefers to call it a "vibration".

    In order to find the right "vibration", the album was recorded at the mythical frequency of 432 Hz, which is said to have healing qualities. "This album is an offering of healing. This project fits no genre, not to be digested easily by everyone." On top of Indian flutes (Be Careful) Γ  la Timbaland, Joe Armon-Jones' cosmic jazz keyboards, psychedelic tracks (Meditation), dub (Matajii Freestyle, Man Made), reggae (Kali V2), R&B (Dingaling) and hypnotic loops (Free My People), Greentea Peng unfolds her social and mystical rhymes showing subtle hints of her elders Erykah Badu, Zap Mama, Lauryn Hill or Ari Up. Melodies emerge from this extraordinary and uncalculated 18-track blend which are impossible to get bored of. A true delight… Fancy another cup of tea?
