Fleetwood Mac - Mirage (Deluxe Edition) (1982/2016) [Official Digital Download 24/96]

After the trilogy opened with Rumours (1977) and Tusk (1979), Fleetwood Mac played Mirage at the famous Château d'Hérouville between 1981 and 1982, where Bowie, Iggy, Cat Stevens and a whole host of others also passed by. The acoustics there were compared to those in Abbey Road. When the ecstasy came to an end and they devoted themselves to their personal interests, the quintet returned to the studio. In the meantime, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham had each continued their careers single-handedly. And Nick's Bella Donna, released a year earlier and produced by Tom Petty and Jimmy Iovine, became a top seller with eight million copies sold. That's enough to put this Mirage in the shade. Nevertheless, there is no question of leaving Fleetwood Mac. The beautiful girl with her rather rough, upbeat voice presents two pieces: Gypsy, a nostalgic ballad dedicated to her friend Robyn Snider Anderson, and Straight Back. Christine McVie composes Hold Me, Love in Store, which is one of the hits of the album, but also Wish You Were Here and Only Over You. Actually, it is Buckingham who continues with Tusk and writes most of the pieces. Mirage is less experimental than Tusk, but not as accessible as Rumours in terms of melodies. For Fleetwood Mac, it represents the end of the Golden Age. MCVIE's extremely kitschy synths are in the foreground of this opus and give the intros of Can't Go Back and Oh Diane a temporally outdated sound from the eighties, which makes the whole thing appear with a slightly peeling pop painting. It wasn't until five years later, when Tango In The Night was launched, that the FM sound made a comeback. In this Deluxe Version, we can hear a live recording from the Forum in Los Angeles in 1982, with Buckingham's bluesy guitars, unreleased versions, B-Sides and a reinterpretation of Fats Domino Blue Monday.
