El que fan les coses quan no les mires és el resultat d’anar pel món amb ulls i orelles ben obertes. La fascinació de Dani López per la realitat quan l’observa de prop, ha fet que coses aparentment ordinàries com el so d’una cafetera, o l’àvia de l’artista rondinant, s’hagin transformat en el material des del qual ha teixit les cançons. La manera com es tracten els instruments, així com el so propi de cadascun dels components, i una metodologia de treball en grup concreta, busca una nova forma d’enforcar les possibilitats del quartet, obtenint una gran riquesa, entre l’experimentació i la tradició. El resultat és una sonoritat que navega entre el jazz, la música de cambra contemporània, la música d’arrel i el pop.

Dani López (Catalonia, 1994) is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and producer.

From a very young age, he has played various instruments and written music for several bands. Through this, he has acquired a lot of experience with musical styles, such as folk, jazz, classical and contemporary music, which have taught him how rich music can be.

In 2016 he graduated in Classical Saxophone and two years later he graduated in Composition, both at the Liceu Conservatory. There he was taught by the renowned composers Benet Casablancas and Benjamin Davies, and saxophone players Albert Julià and David Salleras. During his studies, he was awarded the Ferrer-Salat scholarship, and a special prize for the Composition degree (2018).

As a contemporary music composer, he has written several chamber music pieces as the musicalisation of two stories by Prudenci Bertrana (Una agonia and En Busqueta) for a Pierrot ensemble (Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Piano) and soprano. He has written also Mirall Trencat, a piece for saxophone quartet which has been performed in many different places in Catalonia and Zurich. He has also written a piece for chamber orchestra Star Stuff, as well as a small concert for saxophone that has been played in Spain, Portugal and Mexico: Conversation for saxophone, piano, string orchestra and percussion.

As a saxophone player, he has won several solo and chamber music contests, such as Ecoparque de Trasmiera (2014) and Arjau Catalanmusic XX-XXI (2013), the later for playing a piece of his own.

Recently, he has produced and co-produced three recordings: 10 Anys -El Pot Petit (awarded with the prize Premi Enderrock 2020 as the Best Recording of Music for Families), Praxinoscopi - Criatures (awarded with the prize Premi Enderrock 2020 as the Best Folk Recording) and Lliure Albir - Aires del Monseny. In these records, he has done almost all of the arrangements, played different instruments and written two original songs (in Praxinoscopi).

He works as a “freelance” musician, being part of different projects as Magalí Sare, El Pot Petit, Cia. Holoqué and Hop al Metro.
