They've done it again. Only two years after "Ellengæst" Crippled Black Phoenix already release their next studio album "Banefyre".

That makes ten albums in the 18 years since the band was founded, plus a multitude of EPs, compilations and live albums. All the more impressive when you consider that the British-Swedish collective produces rather sophisticated music.

For this productivity is mainly responsible multi-instrumentalist Justin Greaves, the head of the band, who in the past regularly had to look for new comrades-in-arms to implement his vision. Swedish singer Belinda Kordic has been with the band for over ten years and, together with Greaves, forms the core of the group.

On "Banefyre," Crippled Black Phoenix assembles 13 of their expansive "end-time ballads" (as the band calls their music). Art, prog and post-rock continue to be part of the band's sound, as do wave and gothic leanings. The content is about the persecution of people who are classified by society as "different," according to the band. And also animal protection, which has always been the affair of the heart of Crippled Black Phoenix, plays a role again, not only in the artwork.

Noise expert Kurt Ballou of Converge is responsible for the mix and master of "Banefyre". According to Justin Greaves a very conscious decision: "Everyone will expect another 'Ellengæst'. I was afraid of that, but it's important enough to me not to do another 'Ellengæst'. That's why we asked Kurt to mix the new album - we wanted that analog, raw power. Even though the album has soft moments, they are also edgy. We just didn't want to make the same album twice."
