    Gustav Mahler described his Fifth Symphony as a "cursed work" that "no one capers". While the extreme variety of expression actually overwhelmed the audience at that time, the symphony enjoys the highest popularity today, especially thanks to its fragrant Adagietto movement. Gustavo Dudamel, Musical Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, also conducts Leonard Bernstein's festive and tongue-in-cheek divertimento, which is heard far too rarely, at least in Europe.
