    For some orchestras, concert tours are a normal part of their work. For an opera orchestra, on the other hand, a tour with a symphonic program is something extraordinary. The Bavarian State Orchestra is considered one of the most important and traditional ensembles in the international opera business - we play in one of the most renowned houses in the world!

    What is less known internationally is that we have a long and outstanding tradition with the association of the" Musikalische Akademie e.V. "(founded in 1811), in addition to our activities in the orchestra pit, as a symphonic orchestra - similar to the Vienna Philharmonic - and that under this roof we perform our own concert series, the" Academy Concerts " at the Bavarian State Opera.

    The 2004 European tour was organized and organized by the Bavarian State Orchestra itself. All musicians gave up two weeks of their annual leave to play thirteen concerts with two different programs in ten different cities from the beginning to the middle of September.

    There is probably no more worthy and historic place for the conclusion and culmination of such a European concert tour than the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein. Its acoustics are legendary, the history of the house a reflection of European music history - just think of the scandals on the occasion of the performances of his symphonies conducted by Mahler himself!
    For this reason, we decided to record the concert in Vienna and thus capture this time of intensive music-making.
