Sweet Smoke were a psychedelic jazz-rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1967. The group moved to Europe in 1969, living in Germany, and performing in Germany, Holland and France until 1974 when the band split up. Initially, some members stayed in Europe, some went to India, but most of the band returned to the United States. Although originating in the U.S., Sweet Smoke is often referred to as a Krautrock band. Noted for their buoyant rhythms, inventive improvisations and complex musical structures, in interviews, the group says their music was influenced by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, John Coltrane and The Beatles.

Manifiesto is the ninth solo studio album from Chilean songwriter Víctor Jara. It was edited after his death, using as a base the songs written for the album Tiempos que cambian (Times that change), that was left unfinished.

One of the most influential musicians in British pop history, Syd Barrett was as appreciated as much for his iconoclastic approach to the electric guitar as for his adventurous and imaginative songwriting. Sam Hopkins was a Texas country bluesman of the highest caliber whose career began in the 1920s and stretched all the way into the 1980s. Along the way, Hopkins watched the genre change remarkably, but he never appreciably altered his mournful Lone Star sound, which translated onto both acoustic and electric guitar. Hopkins' nimble dexterity made intricate boogie riffs seem easy, and his fascinating penchant for improvising lyrics to fit whatever situation might arise made him a beloved blues troubadour.

Sir Adrian Boult conducts with plenty of vim and vigour, the Elgarian grand sweep is present and correct and Boult's grasp of the symphonies' architecture never falters. Boult's Lyrita readings are more dynamically expressive than his EMI recordings in that there is more intensity and a greater sense of urgency - dynamic thrust! Boult takes great care over moulding and shaping phrases, the music's ebb and flow captivates the listener and the reflective moments - the First Symphony's Larghetto is sublime - are incredibly moving - full of Brahmsian warmth - as Boult generates a sense of nostalgia and loss - loss of Empire…

On 24 July 1989, New Zealand singer Jenny Morris released "Shiver", the most commercially successful album of her solo career. Featuring singles including Saved Me (a favourite of Prince, who Morris would support on European tour dates in 1990), She Has To Be Loved (an ARIA top five single) and the Paul Kelly-penned Street Of Love, the album achieved double platinum sales in Australia.

"Duke Ellington recognized Jimmy Hamilton as both a talented clarinetist and composer and featured him extensively during his quarter century in the band. Swing Low Sweet Clarinet, a 1960 session for Everest, features the clarinetist leading a small group drawn primarily from Ellington's band, including tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves, Booty Wood and Britt Woodman (heard on baritone horns instead of their usual trombones), bassist Aaron Bell, and drummer Sam Woodyard, while adding non-Ellington musicians Jimmy Rowles on piano, Dave Wells on baritone horn, and John Anderson on trumpet.

Written between his home in LA, and a friend’s place in Austin, RF Shannon’s Shane Renfro wanted Rain on Dust to capture the feeling of the long drives between the two cities. And, simply, on this cinematic third album, it’s mission accomplished. Like a light, warm wind blowing through the desert and across the stretched out highway, Buzzards on the Breeze seductively welcomes you into Renfro’s world – flirting with Beatles-esque guitars, as is the case on so many of the cuts here.

James' new album Always Lately will be released on August 2 via Blossöm Records, with his second single "Filters" to precede on July 10. "'Smooth' is the first song I wrote for Always Lately. It’s about betrayal (in a deeply affectionate way) and getting your frustrations in order, but letting them drive qualities of yourself you love the most," James explains. "The choir at the beginning of the song is an iPhone voice memo of my parents' choir at Christmas it gives me chills every time."
