The unceasing quest for those magical moments in music is what drives jazz musicians to do what they do: “I was blessed to experience such moments in my work with wonderful artists like Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Youn Sun Nah and others,“ recounts guitarist Ulf Wakenius. And that is what the new album “Momento Magico“ is all about – those rare and extraordinary moments outside the bounds of time and space that stay with you throughout an entire musical life.

Federico Jusid has composed soundtracks for more than 40 feature films and over 20 television series, and has most recently scored and conducted these beautiful works for the Watership Down miniseries. Watership Down was directed by Noam Murro and stars James McAvoy, Ben Kingsley, Olivia Colman, John Boyega, Nicholas Hoult, Gemma Arterton, and Daniel Kaluuya.

Harry Allouche just completed his feature film score for Au Bout Des Doigts (with Kristin Scott Thomas and Lambert Wilson). For the movie – which revolves around a young pianist in an academy of music – Harry Allouche also worked as a music director, a music coach for the actors as well as an on set piano double for the main character.

Dance of Sounds' is the debut album of the Estonian vocalist Karmen Roivassepp. It invites the listener to the realms of sincere joy, tranquil melancholy and hidden sorrow through captivating melodies and honest storytelling both in English and Estonian. Her clear and humble vocals combined with the quartet's playful collaboration results in a distinctive contemporary jazz record. Karmen Roivassepp Quartet creates music within the modern jazz idiom with a sophisticated melodic and harmonic approach, great musical interplay and a unique playfulness that brings new life to the genre. Dance of Sounds is the quartet's first large-scale project and suggests that there is definitely more to come from these four talented jazz musicians.

Received wisdom has it that Nordic jazz is essentially cool, reflecting the climate, and atmospheric, reflecting the fjords and the landscape. Eirik Berg Svela’s music is certainly cool, although it takes its cue from a coast thousands of miles from Norway. Indeed, in the promo for another, home-based quartet, Svela admits to having an unhealthy obsession with New York guitarists. The international quartet he fronts here confirms his commitment to the American jazz tradition. Louisiana-born Hammond organist Sam Yahel, English saxophonist Dave Edge and Norwegian drummer Tore Thorvaldsen Sandbakken all have their own voices and approaches but their playing and support allow Svela to emphasise his love for – and to add to – the music that came out of the great Blue Note and Prestige recordings of the 1960s.

It is not jazz, it is not classical music, it is not folk music, still it is all of this and more into a great mix of its own. This is Merje Kägu´s debut CD. She is an Estonian guitar player and this is all her own composition of extremely beautiful and soothing music definitely inspired by her Estonian culture. This music is an intimate journey. It is a reflection of experiences and dialogues with myself and others. It is about losing and finding oneself, about growth and awakening, as well as longing and silence. When Silence Falls embraces the understated beauty of being perfectly imperfect. It is an humble portrait of humanness, in which fragility and strength become one. It is about the rise from falling. The movement of honesty.

A Dream Come True: Obvious question: How did this record come about? Answer: Because the Norwegian guitarist Øyvind Nypan had for a long time nourished what he calls «a dream project», and finally got around to make it happen for real. Nypan’s dream? Travel to New York City, gather four of his favourite musicians and record his own music. Main problems: Funding the project. Establishing contact with the musicians, finding the right studio and setting a date for the session.
