The Scorpions' two previous releases, Blackout and Love at First Sting, were mostly successful due to the band's ability to adjust with the times; with Blackout, they used the classic power rock introduced by bands like Van Halen, and for Sting they used similar melodies, but with a harder, tighter sound akin to the work of such bands as Dokken and REO Speedwagon. With Savage Amusement, the group's first studio recording in almost four years, the Scorpions experimented with more polished pop melodies that Def Leppard and the like had made popular. The end result is polished and often predictable music that, while good, on the whole fails to be as infectious as the music on their previous albums. Die-hard fans will certainly find their share of worthwhile songs, such as "Don't Stop at the Top" and "Believe in Love," but they still may find Savage Amusement to be incomparable to its predecessors.~ Barry Weber (All Music Guide)

Although the Scorpions had already achieved fame after 1982's Blackout, Love at First Sting brought them their biggest single of the decade, the slick anthem "Rock You Like a Hurricane," with some greatly underrated songs to back it up. The album opens with the hair-raising "Bad Boys Running Wild" and continues with songs such as the memorable "Big City Nights" and the half-ballad, half-powerhouse rocker "Coming Home." The record also contains what just may be the band's best ballad ever, the tear-jerking "Still Loving You." Considering the fact that it has some of their best-ever singles, Love at First Sting is definitely a must for all fans of the Scorpions. .~ Barry Weber (All Music Guide)

Blackout was the Scorpions' first majorly successful album, due to its clever balance of pop/rock (the title track), power ballads ("When the Smoke Is Going Down"), and catchy heavy metal ("Dynamite," "No One Like You"). Vocalist Klaus Meine had a throat operation prior to the record's release, and surprisingly, his voice sounds more melodic and lively than ever. The rest of the band sounds great as well, and the album is highlighted by the fast-paced performances of guitarists Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs. Blackout has been called the Scorpions' best record ever, and that statement is not unjust. No One Like You" gave the band its first chart hit.~ Barry Weber (All Music Guide)

Prior to Lovedrive's recording, the Scorpions' lineup had a major change when their lead guitarist, Uli Jon Roth, quit the group (not to mention, the rock genre was rapidly changing). With this in mind, the band not only highlighted the album with the licks and riffs of three guitarists (Rudolf Schenker, Michael Schenker, Matthias Jabs), but they also dramatically changed their style to sound more like that of Van Halen. This change is quite welcome; not only are the performances more unpredictable, but the lyrics and melodies are better written. In fact, some of the Scorpions' best songs, such as "Loving You Sunday Morning," "Holiday," and "Coast to Coast" are found here, making it one of their finest.~ Barry Weber (All Music Guide)

Lioncage are a new band from Germany and they all met at a festival in Loreley that was headlined by Toto and Whitesnake. As all three band members are influenced by 80 s rock such as Toto, Foreigner and Journey then it was an easy decision to form a band themselves. They all had played in cover bands previously and so the playing came naturally. The three set about writing their own material and the result sounds great. What we have here is polished guitar driven melodic rock and keyboard drenched ballads that we all love. If you love that eighties sound then this is an album for you, the overall sound is good solid melodic rock and mixed / produced by Lars himself. Songs like Mission of Love , Falling and Where Do We Go all have an air of originality and the band have managed to find their own niche sound that reveals their influences but gives their originality a chance to shine through. These are well written songs and are really catchy.(amazon.co.uk)

"Oklahoma-born John ‘Moon’ Martin is an American singer-songwriter whose songs were picked up and turned into hits by others. He was an underrated performer and perennially popular in Europe, having first toured there in late 1979. In the USA he opened for Cheap Trick, Rockpile and Joe Jackson. The name ‘Moon’ was added to distinguish him from Brit songsmith John Martyn, and it also recognises his frequent use of lunar-related imagery in lyrics. He was described by author Johnny Rogan as ‘a cross between Buddy Holly, Warren Zevon and John Denver’. His late 60s session career as a ‘guitarist-for-hire’ saw him backing Del Shannon, Jackie DeShannon, Gram Parsons and Linda Ronstadt. He wrote much of ‘Mama’ Michelle Phillips’ debut solo album, ‘Victim Of Romance’ (1977). His 70s band Southwind shared stages with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers. He also found fame in the New Wave era, when he was backed by musicians from Blondie and was produced by Jack Nitzsche (whom he shared with Mink DeVille - hence the latter artist’s covers of ‘Rolene’ and ‘Cadillac Walk’).(repertoirerecords.com)"

German heavy metal icons the Scorpions hit the 50-year mark in 2015, being initially conceived all the way back in 1965 by a 16-year-old Rudolf Schenker as a beat band very much in line with the trends of the time, and slowly evolving into a hard rock force to contend with by the end of the '70s… (allmusic.com)

3 Colours Red has the sound of classic punk down cold. They have the furious attack of the Clash and the shout-along stomp of Sham 69, adding a touch of the Stranglers' old-school rock & roll sensibilities. All of which makes their debut, Pure, a bit of an oddity in 1997, especially since 3 Colours Red doesn't try to expand on their influences at all. In fact, it's a distinct possibility that the band just happened upon this sound as they were bashing away in their garage. It wouldn't be so bad if the band kept the energy level high, but Pure often sags into pedestrian garage-punk territory. There are a few dynamic songs scattered throughout the record, suggesting that they could develop into a cracking little band, but on the whole, Pure is a muddled debut.(allmusic.com)

Punk-chewed bubblegum rock, fronted by sex kitten Wendy James, proved a winning formula on Transvision Vamp's debut release, Pop Art. Despite proclaiming "The rules are…there are no rules" in the liner notes, the set follows the time-honored rock/punk formula of guitars, attitude, and a healthy shot of sex appeal: Nick Christian Sayer's guitar work providing the perfect complement to James' anthemic lyrics. At their best with exuberant outings such as "I Want Your Love" and "Revolution Baby," a nice melodic lull to the rollicking fun is provided by the well-honed ballad "Sister Moon." The second half of the album, however, begins to wear a little thin, avoiding the beautiful simplicity of earlier songs with some experimental punk rock ("Sex Kick") and ballads neither catchy nor deep ("Andy Warhol's Dead" and "Hanging Out With Halo Jones"). The light-hearted sounds and catchy hooks were further developed in their follow-up, Velveteen, but straying from the formula with Little Magnets Vs. the Bubble of Babble in 1991 ended public interest as well as the band.~ Brendan Swift, Rovi (allmusic.com)

"High Voltage - If You Wanna Rock N' Roll" is absolutely not a unworthy tribute to Bon SCOTT. Everything is here ! The instrumental technique is led by guitar licks worthy of Angus YOUNG and the rhythm section amazingly reminds of the original AC/DC trio. Frans LEMEIRE's voice style could be defined as a subtle blend of Bon SCOTT's and Brian JOHNSON's. The peculiar look of our favourite Australians has been closely reproduced on the Spirit Of 66 (Verviers) stage, that 22nd March 1998. The schedule of that night included: "Riff Raff", "T.N.T.", "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Highway To Hell", "Let There Be Rock"… And of course "High Voltage" ! What was supposed to be just an enjoyable break for those Belgian musicians, led by guitar player Vincent FIS (NOW), is actually becoming a career… amazon.com"

Industrial? Dance? Techno? Metal? Call it what you will but I take it for what it is, an entirely new genre of dark, intelligently composed, energetic, and extremely "Danzable" music which cannot be ignored as some of the greatest compilations of sounds that ANYONE has put together. It is inconceivable and incomprehensible for an artist to completely change the genre which was comfortable and also genuinely working for the message which was being portrayed, yet, that is exactly what Danzig has done with this piece of genius which (along with its mother album BlackAciDevil) will always be remembered as the misfit album of the Misfit's former lead man, Glenn Danzig…(amazon.com)
