Woody Guthrie's raw and intimate home recordings will be released for the very first time ever in a two-volume collection, Woody At Home – Volumes 1 & 2. This collection contains 22 unreleased recordings, including 13 previously never-before-heard Woody Guthrie songs. These rare recordings include This Land is Your Land, featuring new verses, and the only known Guthrie recording of Deportee in existence.

These tapes were recorded at the Guthrie family’s apartment in Beach Haven, Brooklyn, NY in 1951–1952. Using a single mic reel-to-reel tape recorder, Woody sang, rambled, and gave insight into his songs to send to his publisher, Howie Richmond, founder of TRO Essex. The 2-volume collection includes 22 previously unheard home recordings of I've Got to Know, Pastures of Plenty, Jesus Christ along with brand-new songs released for the first time!

It may not be a coincidence for an album of all-new Woody Guthrie recordings to be released in the United States in 2025. One of the most iconic photos of the godfather of protest folk features his guitar emblazoned with the message “this machine kills fascists.” It also just so happens that Woody Guthrie released the song “Old Man Trump” in 1954 to denounce the racism of none other than Fred Trump, the father of the current POTUS…Woody Guthrie passed away in 1967, but his music lives on to serve the greater good, especially whenever America is going through tough times. Woody At Home brings together over twenty tracks selected from the hundreds that Woody Guthrie recorded at home on a portable tape deck in the early 50s. For Woody Guthrie, playing music was like the air he breathed: essential. These previously unreleased home recordings aren’t just leftovers from Woody Guthrie’s official songs, but rather have quite a lot in common with them, featuring lively guitar, confident vocals, and the (apparent) simplicity and repetition that became his trademark, earning him widespread recognition and appreciation. The sound quality is far from high fidelity, but listening feels like curling up for an evening by the fire, which suits Woody Guthrie’s music perfectly. Exegetes will notice that there are 13 new songs in this collection, and a version of the ultimate folk classic “This Land Is Your Land” with modified lyrics.
