International touring performer, composer and trumpet player Volker Goetze puts forward another release fuelling cross-cultural dialogue through musical boundary crossing with "Bridges", uniting musicians from three continents to form the Volker Goetze Quintet. The original compositions on this release are rooted in West African and contemporary New York jazz, creating a vibrant transnational musical journey.

Hard on the heels of Amank Dionti, his project with Ablaye Cissoko, Volker Goetze’s new album is a celebration of exchanges between different continents and different sounds. With the well-named Bridges, the German trumpeter builds some sturdy bridges in the company of Ablaye Cissoko, Richie Barshay, Oran Etkin, Kristjan Randalu and several others. From West Africa to New York via Europe, this is an experience of pluralist jazz which is inspired, under the leadership of Cissoko’s virtuoso kora performance, and the warm timbres of Goetze’s trumpet playing, whose original compositions are firmly rooted in both the West African tradition and the contemporary jazz scene of the Big Apple.
