The Pneumatic Transit - Forbidden Trinkets (2024) [Official Digital Download 24/48]

The overall timbre of “Forbidden Trinkets” is dark in contrast to previous releases. That being said, a large portion of the program was composed over a long winter which intentionally influenced production choices. Additionally, the main choice of tracking microphones (with the exception of drums) were ribbon microphones. In turn, this decision subdued the excitement of top end sources (e.g. violins, fuzz tones, etc…).

The employment of live or reverberant rooms were also encouraged throughout the production process, one being an old school house built in the 19th century. The vaulted 50 foot ceilings paired with untreated brick walls made for a fantastic ambiance that could not be disregarded. The final mixes were bounced to a Revox A77 mk iv two track tape machine purchased from The Hall of Justice studio located in Seattle.

In the Spring of 2022 the band reached out to artist Jeff Jordan to inquire about album art. Jordan responded enthusiastically after listening to a snapshot of the unmixed record and invited the group to chose a work from his gallery. Ultimately, the piece “Flyby” was selected for its dark background and stunning foreground which encompasses the theme of “Forbidden Trinkets.”
