The four young singers of Ensemble Quartonal are among the most sought-after vocal ensembles in Germany. This time, their album program features dreamlike and fabulous romantic vocal music from the 19th and early 20th centuries with works by Mendelssohn, Rheinberger, Poulenc, Josef Kromolicki and Mathieu Neumann, among others.

Romantic songs from the 19th century are known for their combination of voice and piano accompaniment. The vocal ensemble Quartonal shows that there is another way. For their album "Traumgestalten", they have found special original compositions from the 19th and 20th centuries that were specially written for two tenors, baritone and bass. A charming line-up that captures the typically romantic themes of unfulfilled love, melancholy and nature in a very special way through the fusion of the voices.

Works by well-known names such as "Wasserfahrt" by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847) and "Resignation" by Hugo Wolf (1860-1903) are performed with texts by equally well-known poets such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) ("Der König in Thule"), Heinrich Heine (1797-1856) ("Loreley") and Joseph von Eichendorff (1788-1857) ("Resignation"). But there are also real discoveries to be heard, such as "Die Weissach-Mühle" by organist and composer Josef G. Rheinberger (1839-1901) or "Nebeltag" by the Swiss composer Friedrich Hegar (1841-1927). The album also includes popular German folk songs in modern arrangements such as "Ein Jäger längs dem Weiher ging" and "Vogelhochzeit". The play with the sound of the words or the vocal imitation of the instrumental accompaniments dramatically emphasizes passages and gives the well-known classics a new twist - sometimes operatic, sometimes humorous.
