Pymlico is an instrumental band from Oslo, Norway, led by composer and drummer Arild Brøter. The band mainly plays what has been described as a mix between progressive rock and fusion. However, their music also offers catchy hooks and singable melodies associated with pop music, alongside grandiose themes more in the vein of movie soundtracks.

On the way home from a particularly successful concert at «Festival Crescendo» in the south of France in August 2022, keyboard player Øyvind said with great enthusiasm: “For once, let’s really try to have the same lineup on the next record!” Pymlico has always had a rotating lineup, with dif- ferent musicians involved, but after the release of “Supermassive” in 2022, there’s no doubt that the current seven members – despite a wide age range and varied musical backgrounds – truly works together, both personally and musically.

Øyvind’s idea quickly gained traction and developed into a desire to explore what this particular lineup could create without too much external influence. Traditionally, Pymlico has always expanded the crew during recordings, bringing in brass, strings, and other instruments to complement the sound. This time, the band chose to strip away the extra layers and focus on the core – the seven members. The goal was to maximize the potential of this group, and the result is an album that is rawer and fiercer than anything they’ve done before – yet still filled with all the qualities Pymlico has become known for: melodic, groovy tunes and powerful solos, all wrapped in a modern production.

Songwriting and arrangements have been a more collective effort than ever before, with each song helping to shape the overall direction of the album. The sound is more organic and less polished, and the album has been painted with a wider and more dynamic brushstroke than previous releases.
