The countless musicians participating in the performance of magnificent baroque music produced an unprecedented variety already around 1650. The same is the case on this album - with the placement of the soloists, instrumentalists, and choirs in different positions in recording space.

Polychoral masterpieces by Heinrich Schütz in magnificent baroque vesper form promise a special audiophile experience. When this repertoire is performed by musicians of the caliber of the Cologne Chamber Choir and the Collegium Cartusianum under Peter Neumann, then the Dresden court church is recreated in your living room. Schütz's Kleine Geistliche Konzerte - liturgical breathers between the grand-scale polychoral pieces - attest splendidly to the fact that excellent music can also be composed in hard times. Schütz composed many of his virtuoso vocal and instrumental works under conditions imposed by the Thirty Years' War. Financial resources and male vocalists were in short supply.
