Jon Mark & Johnny Almond - Mark Almond I (Harvest 1971) 24-bit/96kHz Vinyl Rip

It is true that part of this is fantastic and part just OK, but the fantastic is just unique. Johnny Almond's sax and flute are just superb in every way on the 'City' side. The Ghetto is a marvel and it goes on from there. I loved the Turning Point by John Mayall, which featured Jon & Johnny but this is on a different level.

"The City" (parts 2, 3 & 4) is one of those songs that could only have come from the early 1970s: a blend of folk, blues, jazz and ‘soft-prog’, it features whispered vocals, sax, flute and acoustic guitar, takes almost 12 minutes but doesn't seem a second too long. How, you wonder, is something this quiet so intense? If only the rest of the record was up to it; it's not, but it's all very good. Please be aware that there is some distortion on the louder passages towards the end of side 2, caused, I presume, by the previous owner playing this LP on poor equipment. I decided to post anyway because side 1 is THE side and deserves to be heard!
