Kieran Hebden, best known by the stage name Four Tet, is an English post-rock and electronic musician. Hebden first came to prominence as a member of the band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist. Hebden's music originally eschewed the traditional pop song format in favour of a more abstract approach - his sound and melodies incorporate elements of hip hop, electronica, techno, jazz, grime and folk music with live instrumentation. His newer works are inspired heavily by house music.

Ever present British artist and Text Records boss Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet delivers his latest full-length release since 2013's Beautiful Rewind with the enlightening Morning / Evening LP, arriving at the time of the northern hemisphere’s summer solstice. Manifested as two twenty-minute pieces, the title is a nod to the different raga styles prevalent in Hindustani classical music, yet the influence of the Indian sub-continent doesn’t stop there with both sides of the record permeated with authentic Bollywood-styled found sound, tastefully intermingled with Hebden’s nimble Ableton live production. Grounded by a steady punch, the ‘Morning Side’ comes alive once the Hindi vocals join the mix, swirling around heavenly VST synth notes until the beat fades to leave a vast, celestial plain. The ‘Evening Side’ sets out with bitty fragments before diving into moments of sublime new-age melody, although it is Hebden’s effortless transition into raucous drum breaks in the last embers of the piece that provide the biggest surprise here. Experienced as a whole, both productions work to compliment each other, making for a rich, kaleidoscopic journey.
