This early '60s studio session captures Ella Fitzgerald moving toward the smaller, more pointedly jazz-inflected ensembles that would shape her career in her final decades. The intimate setting, superb musicianship and stellar recording make it a favorite among jazz-oriented audiophiles. Not to be missed!

Ella Fitzgerald recorded these numbers from the heyday of swing, played and sung time and time again in ballrooms or on the radio, in completely new and personal interpretations. The 1961 album offers absolutely top notch musicality, perfect recording quality and superb accompaniment by a small ensemble with room for improvisations. An homage to one of the most successful periods in the 100 year history of jazz, this album provides a wonderful opportunity to discover something new in these chestnuts. Pianist Lou Levy leads the ensemble which includes Herb Ellis on guitar.
