Inspired by the prog classics "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" by Rick Wakeman and Bo Hansson's "Lord of the Rings", the prog trio Bresk has made a concept album about the painter Peder Balke's dramatic life. The album "A Journey Through the Life of Peder Balke 1804-1887" will be released on January 28 digitally and on vinyl.
Bresk uses the prog rock style from the golden age in the early seventies to take us into the history of one of our greatest artists, regardless of expression and era. It alternates between tightly arranged songs such as "Sailing the Northern Coast" and "Napoleonic Wartime Overture" and looser compositions full of wildness, such as "The Fire" where it is described how Balkeby goes up in smoke. The impressions are conveyed musically with the classic sound of old Hammond, clavinet and Moog in interplay with genre-true bass and drums.
Peder Balke was the poor boy who grew up on Helgøya in the middle of Lake Mjøsa and made an improbable class trip by the standards of the time. Revolution, setbacks and challenges usually lurked around the next turn, but at the height Balke found the tone with the French king and Balke's work is to this day exhibited in the Louvre in Paris.
Bresk consists of the young boy Peder Narum (drums) who brings with him two ring foxes from our national music life, respectively the father Lars Christian Narum (Hellbillies, Narum, Heigh Chief, Nickels & Dimes) on keyboards and the uncle Jon Anders Narum (Narum, Espen Lind, Nickels & Dimes) on bass.
