A prominent figure in the Brazilian music scene, São Paulo-born composer, pianist, and arranger Bozzo Barretti was a member of Capital Inicial — one of Brazil’s biggest pop rock bands — and has also collaborated with artists such as Laura Pausini, Arrigo Barnabé, Tim Maia, and Toquinho, among others.

In his debut solo album, BEYOND THE EDGE, BEFORE THE STARS, Barretti explores his full creative potential and extensive experience as a musician, presenting 14 original pieces where he chooses the piano, his primary instrument, as the protagonist. His compositions are influenced by minimalism, serialism, and atonalism, while maintaining a melodic essence that is omnipresent in his elegant musical writing.

It is a mistake to consider his pieces easy to execute technically. They may appear so in their conceptual simplicity. However, it is in the subtle interpretation of meticulous dynamics, the silences between notes, and the “tempos rubatos” that the invisible complexity of his music is revealed. Whether evoking modal atmospheres, as in “Tempvs Transiti”, or intertwining contraposed voices, as in “One Simple Melody“, Barretti knows how to combine musical maturity with a rare sense for creating excellent melodies.

The album features special guest appearances by Cássio Poletto on electric violin in “Light Blue Sky (Revisited)” and Rafael Cesário on cello in “From a Distant Land.” A distinct and unique path for an artist whose career has always been marked by successes and new challenges.
