On August 30th 1980, Barclay James Harvest performed the most legendary concert of their career on the steps of the Reichtag in West Berlin. This free concert took place in front of an audience of 250,000 people next to the Berlin Wall which divided the city at that time. The event was filmed and recorded, spawning the bands most successful album in the UK and a film and video release which was also screened on television.

"Enjoy this atmospheric album from this sympathetic group". Note: Tracks walk-over in each other; so gapless burning is essential to seamless play the whole album.

    Review:

"A Concert for the People" is an amazing live album from a free 1980 open-air concert on the steps of the historic Reichstag, right next to the Berlin Wall. The concert was pretty much flawless, unfortunatly the recording session was not. The Mobile One equipment malfunctioned and there were loud noises and buzzes throughout the recording. BJH, along with Martin Lawrence did a major overdub at Strawberry studios, which is why the album wasn't released until 1982.

This concert featured some of the band's most popular early works, performed while at the peak of their musical ability. The live rendition of "Berlin" brought the house down, and still brings a shiver down my spine after all these years. The haunting "In Memory of the Martyrs" may have been better than the studio version, it has a passion that is awesome. As always, they finished up with "Hymn" and the resounding "Yeah's" from the crowd really crank it up.

This is a must have album for any Barclay James Harvest fan. As an interesting aside, the German pressing had two additional songs not on the American album; "Love on the Line" and "Rock-N-Roll Lady". Jim Wilkins - Amazon.com
