Anne-Line began singing in small French and Belgian cabarets while still a very young girl. George Brassens, renowed French Singer-Composer, caught her act in Paris and instantly became a great influence on her. Equally a source of encouragement was enthusiastic reaction of the Continental audiences, who were hearing these Yiddish folk songs for the first time.

To be born at a time in the midst of what seemingly was a pemanent reversion to the law of the cave (Warsaw, Poland, when Nazi Germany was overpowering a continent and slaughtering innocents by the millions) could be a trauma so insurmountable as to render the victim incapable of compassion, devoid of love for the rest of his life.

While it is true that Anne-Line was a mere child of three when her parents surreptitiously left Warsaw and moved to Brussels, the sears that nightmare left upon her elders understandably could have been handed down to her. That they were not is amply obvious with one brief play on this album - any portion. Love of humanity, the great universal equalizer which knowns neither national boundary nor language differentiation, leaps out at you at once.

Anne-Line's father worked all his life as a tailor. The plaintive Yiddish folk songs he sang while he sewed sparked his daughter's love of music. not only did she study the Yiddish language with the dedication of a scholar, but its songs as well. She learned the art of composition quickly and well. Her first tune, as one might suspect, was "The Little Tailor", dedicated to her father of course…
