The genre of one-handed piano music is large: there are many more pieces for the left hand than the right hand, but this music is often reserved for and used when one sustains an injury. It is not the typical repertoire that a pianist might study, and again is often used only when a pianist injures themselves. While male composers tend to dominate this field, a sabbatical of 2012 allowed Wiley to research her new interest: that of finding WOMEN composers of left handed/one-handed piano music. She found well over 100 such composers, researched and documented each one, and ultimately this led to two major articles on this topic that were published in the American Music Teacher Magazine. Further study, research, and performing has given her the opportunity to record these little-known, and in many cases, unheard of and/or never-recorded works. This CD is a milestone of sorts, in that it documents several early historical works (ie.,Reese, Resimont, Choquet) not heard beforeand highlights composers transcending the 1900’s to the present. With the exception of Two Indispositions, every work represented on this CD is for the left hand alone.
