When the "Disco Music" reigned in the early 80's, many of us, rockers, we were in mourning. But all was not lost! A movement was brewing back to the roots sound, denying the ugly artificial sound of digital percussion and instrumentation, products based on keyboards and synths. In a small town called Windham Hill, William Ackerman founded a Folk-Ethnic music label called Windham Hill Records… that the proposal is very honest in the beginning, had an undeniable global impact. I remember started listening to this selection called "Sampler '82", I found great performances on acoustic guitar and piano pieces. This "sampler" without being a "greatest hits" contains the best of this label in their music, namely: George Winston, Michael Hedges, Alex de Grassi and certainly Shadowfax.
Of course, it took to copy the idea from other labels and repeat the formula. I would say the best of the so-called New Age was conceived in the early to late 80's.Fran Solo, November 2011
