I define Tomita as my guilty pleasure.
Is that since we come to know, was undermined by its commercial past… Do you remember "Kimba" the white lion's TV series? Besides, I loved that series and then came his alter-ego The Lion King's movie.
I return to Tomita, consider what happened was unfair: he sidelined of circles progressive music genre (actually the web ProgArchives neither named him…thing and cases.) I remember those years of that reason, he wasn't a creator(?). Moreover he was compared to ELP, on "Pictures at an Exhibition", great error.
And I did accept so much nonsense!
Today I look with different eyes Tomita's legacy, a precursor in the interpretation of classical music. And it would be blasphemy to affirm that seems ambiental music, no sir! The use of synthesizers and mellotron are executed masterfully.
The year is 1974 and launches this, his first LP "Snowflakes Are Dancing", with some of the wonderful work of Claude Debussy. Having taken this musician impressionist and interpret the music that makes us dream, is a success. They'll come in the 80 current New Age that took all the music legacy of Impressionist musicians (Debussy, Satie, Ravel, etc).
Let's leave at Mr. Tomita, in the appropriate place: Progressive-Electronic music.
