Though she began her career as an acclaimed movie and television actress, Rosario Flores is a Latin Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter. Her emotionally expressive, reedy alto careens through pop, rock and R&B to nuevo flamenco and all stops in between. As a performer, she offers theatrical creativity, physical energy, and an innate musicality that can mesmerize an audience; she consistently sells out concert halls across the globe. She has been one of Spain's premier media stars since the mid-'90s. Though better known by her full name, Rosario Flores, she bills herself simply as Rosario on her albums. Her 1995 outing De Ley whose songs were written by her brother Antonio was her popular breakthrough as a singer a decade after she began recording. The album's two singles, "Mi Gato" and "Sabor Sabor," have since gone down in Spanish recorded music history. Her 2001 album Muchas Flores, a tribute to Catalan rhumba, became an international hit and placed on many world music charts, representing a return to her gypsy roots. She was awarded a Latin Grammy in 2002 for Best Female Pop Album. She won again for its sequel, 2003's De Mil Colores. 2008's Parte de Mí was a musical travelog and autobiography; it achieved platinum status in Spain. 2011's Raskatriski featured 11 self-penned songs. Titled for an all-but-forgotten Catalan rhumba, Rosario called it her album of "gypsy funk." She served as a coach on La Voz, Spain, and a judge on Idol in Colombia, and also appeared in La Voz Kids contests in Spain and Mexico, in 2017 and 2018, while continuing to record and tour.
