With this first CD of a series of four, whose final edition will coincide with Astor Piazzolla's birth centenary in 2021, the Quintet that bears his name embarks on the ambitious project of raising the unmistakable voice of the great tango innovator.

After the composer's death in 1992, the Astor Piazzolla Foundation was created with the aim of taking care of his legacy and making it known. The widow of Piazzolla, and President of the Foundation, Laura Escalada, decided to regroup the Astor Piazzolla Quintet (which was formed for the first time in the 60s) and provide it with five virtuoso musicians capable of interpreting the original music of the one who revolutionized tango. It is now more than twenty years since the renewed group began its journey through the most renowned scenarios of the globe, acclaimed by the international press as the only one with the ability to represent the inimitable style of the great precursor of the renewed tango.

The CD Revolucionario, portrays several facets of the transgressive Piazzolla, from Tango Para una Ciudad or Alfredo Gobbi's Portrait, unimaginable without the author's academic background, to Fracanapa with its milonguera essence (here Piazzolla uses the virtuoso technique of playing his bandoneon with two hands ). And also from the tricky subject Revolucionario with his virtuoso instrumental solos to Milonga for Three and Finale, one of the few pieces of this CD with a more gentle overall tone. With its 12 themes, Revolucionario contains music written between 1950 and the late 80s, and highlights the innovative aspects of the man who fought against the current to achieve the deserved reputation of the pioneer.
