    „Cymbalum Sionium“ is a varied collection of motets by German composer and Thomaskantor Johann Hermann Schein (1586-1630), who is considered, along with his acquaintance Samuel Scheidt and his close friend Heinrich Schütz, one of the three finest composers of the early Baroque era. “Cymbalum Sionium”, as one of his most magnificent works, is a musical treasure chest that contains polyphonic pieces for major feasts such as Christmas and Easter, alongside motets for weddings and funerals, sung by single or multiple choirs. This is why it comes as a surprise, that recordings of this multifarious masterpiece have been very rare until now. The German instrumental ensemble Musica Fiata and vocal ensemble La Capella Ducale under musical direction of Roland Wilson have rediscovered Schein’s music for their latest album, showing once again why they are known for their historical accuracy of their performance practices as well as their virtuosic precision.”
