Jane's Party - The Best of Wild in the Woods, Vol. 1 (2023) [Official Digital Download]

Toronto indie rockers Jane's Party have announced a new EP, previewed today by a cover of Steely Dan's iconic "Dirty Work." The Best of Wild in the Woods Vol. 1 arrives November 6, following the band's recent single "Ships on an Ocean." Having previously only been a live performance series uploaded to the band's YouTube channel starting in the summer of 2021, select highlights from Wild in the Woods will soon be available on your streaming platform of choice.

The EP features guest appearances from Dwayne Gretzky's Nick Rose, Skye Wallace, Ferraro's Tally Ferraro and longtime Jane's Party collaborator Danica, with the band having devised it as a pandemic-era way to get back to performing live and reconnect with their music industry peers by covering songs together — but The Best of Wild in the Woods Vol. 1 also includes the quartet performing some original material, including a live version of "Daydream" from 2016's Tunnel Visions.

"We have so many talented friends in our little circle that WitW became a great vehicle to collaborate and showcase some of them," vocalist/keyboardist Jeffrey Giles explained in a press release. "I remember playing 'Dirty Work' with Danica next to the Humber River in Toronto and having hikers and passersby all stop to enjoy the impromptu live performance in their backyard. Part of being a musician is making the most of your circumstances. In this case we had limited resources but an intense drive to create and perform. The Best of Wild in the Woods Vol. 1 captures music in its purest form, where catharsis, ingenuity, and collaboration take place (literally) in nature."
