    Der 1660 auf Sizilien geborene Alessandro Scarlatti gilt als "Erneuerer der Barockmusik". Er war Vater von neun Söhnen, darunter Domenico und Pietro Filippo Scarlatti, die ebenfalls Komponisten wurden. Vor allem als Opernkomponist bekannt, hat er im Laufe seines Opernschaffens die Dimensionen dieser Form kontinuierlich ausgeweitet und den Anteil des Orchesters immer mehr verstärkt. Ähnliches lässt sich für seine Sakralmusik sagen, die in ihren bedeutendsten Werken den Stil vorwegnimmt, der seinen Höhepunkt in den großen Messen von Bach und Beethoven fand. Für die Karwoche hat Scarlatti diverse Responsorien (Wechselgesänge) komponiert, die in ihrem musikalischen Reichtum und ihrer emotionalen Ausdruckskraft die Leidensgeschichte Jesu Christi packend nachvollziehen lassen. Maestro Sergio Balestracci und La Stagione Armonica haben die einzelnen Vokalteile der Karsamstag-Responsorien durch besinnliche Orgelwerke ergänzt, die den kontemplativen Charakter des Gesamtkonzepts hervorragend unterstreichen. Emotional packende Musik zu Ostern – mustergültig interpretiert.
