Emilio Cao, born in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1957 is a musician and composer of traditional galician music. He is one of the greatest performers of the celtic harp and the one who re-introduced that instrument in modern galician folklore. His first music experiences took place in his hometown were he participated in different cultural and music projects like ""Brétema or "NHU". It was in a group called "Voces Ceibes" ("Free Voices") where he started composing his first songs. His first record "Fonte Do Araño" was published in 1977 in coincidence with the historical political change in Spain and the resurgence of the different cultures all over the spanish state. The demo of "Fonte do Araño" was prepared in Foz (Lugo) with a Grundig TK847 tape recorder. After rehearsing in Mondariz (Pontevedra) the recording was done at the Audiofilm studios, Madrid, on April the 18th, 19th and 20th of '77 . Emilio's destiny and intuition wished to gather together a line coming from pop-rock and improvised music with another one closer to traditional music, making a fusion that turned out to be innovative, bridging the existing gap and also meeting the needs to do something different in Galician music. Time showed that Emilio's music was not a temporary product of the special momentum in the spanish life; indeed he is regarded as one of the basic innovators of the galician music in recent history. He keeps writing music and performing all over Europe.
