A vision of an apocalyptic future set in the wastelands of Australia. Дорога стала способом существования. И дала многим возможность проявлять свои самые жестокие инстинкты. Банда байкеров на мощных мотоциклах, желая рассчитаться за своего убитого товарища, преследует молодого полицейского Макса. В яростной схватке убит другой полицейский, Гус, подобная участь может ждать Макса и его семью.
Ему предстоит самая главная и сложная задача — сохранить жену, сына и выжить самому. В роли Макса — Мел Гибсон, тогда ещё мало известный широкой публике.
